Maldini — about Tonali's move to Milan
Former Milan technical director and legend Paolo Maldini shared his opinion on the transfer of midfielder Sandro Tonali.
"We have made every effort to keep him. We are always open to major transfers, but in this case it was unnecessary. We paid only 1/5 of the total market value for Sandro and had intensive discussions with the CEO and owners of the club: even our scouts felt that he was undervalued," said Maldini.
This characteristic approach to transfer policy highlights Milan's mastery of the team-building strategy by acquiring talented players on favorable terms. Sandro Tonali, who became part of the Rossoneri, represents not only football talent, but also the financial wisdom of the club. Such decisions form a stable basis for success and allow Milan to strengthen its leadership in world football.
Sandro Tonali, a 23-year-old midfielder, joined Milan in 2020. At the beginning of his stay at the club, he spent the first season on loan for € 5 million, after which he was bought out for about € 15 million. However, in the summer transfer window of 2023, Tonali decided to continue his career at Newcastle United. The transfer amount was an impressive € 70 million, highlighting the talent and value of the Italian midfielder.
Recall that in August 2018, Paolo Maldini was appointed director of club development, and a year later he took the position of technical director. In 2022, he was awarded the "Best European Manager" award at the Golden Boy Awards. In June 2023, Maldini left the position of technical director of Milan, completing his contribution to the development and success of the club. This period is marked not only by sporting achievements, but also by major transfers that contribute to the history of the club and its formation strategy.
